Managing broken printers

What are you going to do when your printer breaks?

You have bought a nice printer, loaded it with ink or toner, and then purchased the paper suited for your printer. Out of nowhere, it breaks. What are you supposed to do? Do you have it repaired? Do you bring it back to the store? There are so many things to do when your printer gets broken. Before your printer actually breaks, you have to take a few steps to avoid this disaster.

Prevention is better than cure

The first thing to do when you buy your printer is to look at the warranty information. How long will your printer get covered under warranty. If it breaks, what are the steps to take? If it malfunctions, what should you do? The warranty information of your printer is very important and you should look at it diligently when you purchase one. If you think that the warranty period is insufficient for your printer then you might want to avail of some sort of extended service warranty plan. If you think that three months or 90 days is not enough to cover your printer then you might want to extend it to one year or even two years. The second thing that you have to do is basically take care of your printer. Do not put A4 papers when you are printing letter size documents. Do not put bad quality ink in your cartridges. Do not pull out paper when there is a paper jam. Allow the printer to discard it on its own.

Repair options

So you have done everything but your printer still breaks. If your printer is under warranty then all you have to do is follow the warranty instructions. You might have to bring your printer back to the shop or have it shipped to an address. What if your printer is not covered by the warranty anymore? If your printer is not covered by the warranty then you should bring your printer to a printer repair shop or a computer repair shop. You will be charged for repair but when the shop returns your printer, make sure that you ask for a warranty again! Your printer might break again after a few weeks and you don't want to pay more dollars for that. If your printer is perpetually breaking then maybe it is now time for your to buy a new printer altogether.
